I can do it.

Shirts and Dishes

As soon as the cereal bowls where put on the table, the children noticed that they were the same color as their shirts.  It was even more fun when the glasses and plates came out.
After counting all the pink and blue dishes they  had fun finding pink and blue items near the table.

"A" is for Apple, Lapbook.

For the last two weeks of Sept 2013, we have been working on  "A is for apple".
My children put together lap books.   Each lap book was different, depending on
the age of the child, their interest in doing the projects and how many days they
attended day care.
Here is an example of Alyssa's work.

Here is a link to the basic structure of our curriculum this year.

Supply Boxes

Children like to fight over crayons.   Everyone wants the same color and yet they forget they can look in the crayon box and find another.

I decided that a school pencil box would solve the problem.
The children's name is written on each box, along with a number that matches the child's work in progress, craft shelf.

Inside the box the children store 10 crayons, scissors, glue stick and a pic pen.
They also have the following card that I made to be cut, colored and laminated.

I found that I can fit another card sideways, to save card stock and laminating paper.
Some thing you can't see here, is that each crayon is also numbered with the box number.
The children can now inventory their own box and they know to put it away in their work in progress cubby.

The backs of the cards are left white.   It would be possible to clip and tape pictures of future items that go in the box.  So far the kids love it.   My daycare children are between  the ages of 3 and 5.  Limiting the number of crayons has worked well.   We still have a larger box of crayons that I can bring down upon request, but most of the time the children are happy with what they have. The Children are learning a variety of skills (counting, primary colors, taking care of their own belongings) and there is  LESS FIGHTING and LESS MESS.

In's and Out's of Home Child Care

Recently, I received a memo saying, that if I would like  get any federal money (through assistance, food and grant programs) I must  have a sign in/out sheet.
I  created one that would allow for single and multiple children. One that had room for daily in and out times,  plus daily initials and weekly signatures.
Parents also needed to be able  to write their check number and the check amount each week. Checks were than dropped in a locked box in the daycare closet.   If parents paid in cash, they handed  the money to me and  I would write down the amount, date and initial the form.
I've printed a copy of the following form on card stock for each family.  The forms are placed backwards in a file with the families name.  This allows for privacy.
